Balblair bucked convention a few years ago by removing age statements from their whiskies and replaced them with vintages. The 2002 is replacing the 2001 as the entry level offering and offers delicious notes of sponge cake.
Sponge cake, vanilla, a lawn mown in the summer, icing sugar.
Victoria sponge without the jam, vanilla custard and a hint of wood-spice.
Sweet and satisfying.
This whisky jumps out of the glass with its sweetness whilst still maintaining a freshness about it.
I don't think I've ever had an angrier dram straight from the bottle, I was warned. Definitely rewards you if you add a few drops of water and calms down a lot after 30 minutes in the glass. Definitely not one to sit back and let the mind wander, quite complex, ever changing, interesting challenging and sometimes rewarding. Not as wonderful as some make out but certainly not a dull bottle
Amazing whiskey at a good price! non chill filtered, natural colour, no added caramel and 46%. The perfect combination for a brilliant malt and a true winner from Balblair.
Just head and shoulders above the others. I've just tracked down two more bottles. One to drink and one to save for posterity.
Unfortunately, this release was replaced by the 2003 vintage. However, you can still order a dram of the 2002 release, and if we ever manage to get hold of any more bottles, they will be sure to go up on site. --The Chaps at Master of Malt
I'd really like to try this. x
