In early 2019, Balblair's core range received a relaunch, eschewing the vintages that had previously adorned the bottles in favour of age statements! This is the entry level expression of the range, a 12 year old single malt matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and double-fired American oak casks. Though the vintages are gone, Balblair's whisky retains its marvellous creaminess and fruit-forward flavour profile.
Waxy peels, sponge cake, soft cedar earthiness and some nutmeg.
Juicy red apple and cooked pear, with layers of honey and barley developing.
Honey continues, with some milky tea and sultana notes for company.
$35.87 - $113.46
I bought this here on 13 January 2025 and it was £51.74, no matter how good it is and the 5 star rating I've given it it has priced itself out of it's bracket (as a benchmark entry level scotch) in my opinion and is now not value for money. If you can get this anywhere for under 50 noupes its a must buy, sadly I think this will be less and less likely.
Nose: lemon cheesecake, marmalade, rich tea biscuits, soft leather, subtle vanilla with a farmy funk. Taste: Nippy, peppery at first evolving into citrus, sweet and sour, with a mineral note. Very engaging! Finish: Quite bitter but not in a bad way, a bit grapefruitish, spicy. Short to medium. A very interesting characterful dram.
Unforgettable whisky can't wait to have another bottle
Amazing! Wonderful notes and excellent texture. Such a well accomplish whisky and absolutely worth every penny...
Lovely sweet, vanilla, baked goods and fruity malt. Ignore the ridiculous 1 star review below
