Officially launched in 2006, this 10 year old lies at the heart of the Isle of Arran range and exudes all the honeyed richness we have come to associate with the island distillery.
Herbal, biscuity, hedgerow greenness and dried grass, like a long English summer's afternoon.
Sweet. Quite malty, digestive biscuits, followed by green fruits and Cox's apple peel.
Slightly bitter, maltiness.
First time I have bought a single malt from a distillery in Arran. More than happy with the quality, character and complexity of taste.
Very good, enjoyable whisky. Decant for a day or two, add a small drop of bottled water and definitely makes for a good value dram, although I would have expected a slightly more maritime, Old Pulteney or Aerstone Sea Cask vibe given how close to the sea it is but excellent none the less.
Nice, light, sweet whisky, surprisingly smooth for 10 yo. But... its finish is pretty short-lived and not much impressive, and lack of character... Good value for money anyway. I will keep a bottle in my bar but unlikely to buy more...
I remember waiting for the 14 year Arran that was expected to be the optimum after the distillery opened. There seems a slight change of direction here, younger, sweeter and with a creamy finish. Toffee sweetness with background green fruit and a hint of menthol?? Easy and pleasant to drink, but it's Good, not Great.
A very nice scotch. Mostly vanilla with a very soft caramel leading to a mild butterscotch flavour. The flavour remained for a few minutes after each sip and there was definitely a hint of coconut in the aftertaste, but easy to miss. Very pleasant, especially after a meal. Having said all that, I prefer smoke and peat in my scotch so this left something to be desired, but that's just my personal tastes. If I can enjoy this then a fan of this style of scotch will be very very pleased. 10/10
