This impressive blended Scotch whisky is brought to us by Adelphi, celebrating Charles Maclean, whisky expert, mentor, and Adelphi's official Chief Nose. Created under his guidance and giving a nod to the landmark on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, nearby to the Ardnamurchan distillery, this blend consists of 70% malt, with a high proportion drawn from sherry casks. Designed to showcase a classic west coast character, it's brimming with salted citrus, praline, and oily smoke.
Flamed orange peel, salted lemons, and charred driftwood, with stone fruits, sawdust, and a touch of smoky tar.
Creamy notes of macadamia nuts, Caramac, and rice pudding with a burnt top. Zesty citrus follows, with floral malt and earthy smoke.
Oily tar and smoky ash join toasted hazelnuts and creamy praline.
$32.79 - $66.90
Grabbed a bottle chance at the distillery - I'm on my 4th bottle now. Excellent blend! I could sniff this for hours. Tastes amazing too.
This is special. Having tasted around 2000 ( only ) Scottish single malts/ blends/ grains I am of the opinion that this is a bottling that is of high quality at a very good price. It is owned and made by Adelphi - the same people who own and make Ardnamurchan single malt - one of the very best relatively new whisky distilleries in Scotland. It has a single malt / grain ratio of 70/30 % , is natural colour, non chill filtered and bottled at 46% abv. I will always have this in my cabinet.
I'll preface this by saying that I invariably drink single malts and have done so for decades but I was intrigued by this. I have several Adelphi single malts and I have enjoyed Ardnarmurchan offerings so, having read positive reviews on several sites, I thought I'd give it a try. Recently, at the same price point or lower, I have bought An Cnoc 12, Laphroaig 10, Glenmorangie 12 and Glen Scotia double cask. So how does this blend compare? It just doesn't, despite its high malt content.
Superb Peat and iodine nose with barley undertones. The high malt content shows and there is a lovely mouthfeel and body for a blended whisky. Great stuff from Adelphi!
This is a really good blend and well worth the price tag.
