A 14 year old single malt from the awesome Aberlour Distillery up in Scotland's prolific Speyside region. This expression has enjoyed its maturation in a combination of Oloroso sherry casks and first-fill American oak casks. Dig in to all those fruity, spicy sherried notes that you're familiar with from Aberlour, paired with decadent helpings of rich, creamy vanilla. Highly ideal for somewhat chilly evenings, this one.
Big aromatics on this one with cloves, cardamom and camphor, and then comes a wave of sweeter notes like toffee, milk chocolate and orange rind.
Full texture, round and creamy, with sweet dark cherries, fudge, and mocha coffee with a refreshing minty breeze.
Quite long with lingering honey and wood spice.
Lovely rich slightly sweet warm overtones, excellent value.
Sweet berries, vanilla and very pleasant. Not too complicated on the notes, which is very welcoming for sharing with friends who are new to whisky. Received as a gift so cannot comment on value for money. Very elegant packaging tube which is ideal for a gift. A nice smooth step up from the 12yo, with the expected quality from Aberlour. Will definitely keep a bottle on hand as a winter warmer with guests.
Been a fan of Aberlour for many years. Visited the distillery several times and even bottled my own choice. Always great whisky.
I have several good quality single malts in my cabinet at the moment and enjoyed tasting the 14 year old Double Cask Matured Aberlour. It has a light pleasant taste although perhaps a little sweeter than others in my collection. Very pleasant, very refreshing.
Maybe it's my palate, but I'm not getting the claimed fruit and spices. Nose is distinctly toffee, hint of vanilla taste wise and quite a harsh finish. Quite drinkable but nothing special, particularly for a 14 y/o. There are better and cheaper Speyside whiskys available.
