    Aberfeldy 21 Year Old

The Aberfeldy distillery is nestled in the foothills of the central Highlands, and has been in operation since it was founded in 1898. Matured for a generous 21 years, this single malt boasts classic Highland character with layers of heather honey, nutty malt, and zesty fruit, joined by a rich depth of dried fruits and delicate smoke.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Runny honey, dried fruits, and biscuity malt enlivened by a fresh, zesty quality, and notes of waxed citrus.

    Palate

Silky vanilla and creamy oak lead to refined smoke, with notes of marzipan, candied orange, and floral fruit.

    Finish

Ripe white peach, sultanas, and a good wave of honey, a smidge of wood smoke, backed up by caramelised almonds and a touch of toasted coconut.

Excellent malt and wouldn't refrain from purchasing this again.

I'm not a whisky drinker, But I did a fair bit of research into various scoth malt whiskies online before making this purchase. And it wasn't easy as the info out there is mind blowing for someone who knows nothing of whisky. I bought this bottle as a gift. But from the reaction I received, I can say with no uncertainty that the recipient was over the moon, really taken aback. So I can rest assured I'd make an excellent choice. Therefore, I wouldn't be giving this malt justice if I gave anything less than a five.

Is it worth £1.85 a sip?

Well if a sip of whisky is 10ml and this cost £130 then it's a whisper over £1.85 everytime I put my lips to the glass. I shared the financial burden with my Scottish pal as part of our annual Christmas pact to split the cost and explore a more expensive bottle that normally we could not justify on our own steam, a great partnership i can highly recommend. Well we had success with the previous Christmas choice so had high hopes, however the Aberfeldy left us underwhelmed. It was a potential easy win for the bottle with eager, excited drinkers waiting to pour out the first drams but it was not to be. The best way i can describe it is "that drinking the Ab 21 is like driving a ferrari around the race track in eco drive", although the experience is pleasant you expect a hell of alot more for your money. This is how I found this, it was nice to drink, enough complexity for it to be distinguished from a £40 bottle but at a blind taste i would put it at the £60. I have posted this quite late from our initial taste but only just finished it off. The whole night was not at a loss though as post the tasting of the bottle which we capped off for another time hoping the air would do some magic over time, it didn't, we got royally smashed on the revolving door collection and finished off an excellent Talisker 18 which is an enormous improvement on the 10yr old that is quite a decent drink in itself for the price, so a good night was had!

I'm not a fan of whisky to be honest but this was beautiful..bought it for my dad's birthday and her insisted I have one with him ...I had more than one ..lovely

    Not great

Bit rough. Got as a birthday present and have had between for £30 a bottle

    Good but not £125 good.

It's not bad at all although a little unremarkable and if it was a third of the price it would be a decent buy. At 125 quid it's very underwhelming. Taste and price do not necessarily correlate all that well.
