The second single malt to be released by the fabulous Aber Falls distillery in North Wales is here! This expression was matured in a combination of Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, bourbon, and virgin oak casks and is positively brimming with rich fruit and subtle spice. Striving for sustainability and quality, the team at Aber Falls works closely with local farmers to grow top quality Welsh barley and contribute to the local economy. It gets a thumbs up from us!
Creamy malt with diced nuts, caramel crystalised fruit, dates, and prunes.
Vanilla and toffee cross zesty orange peel, heaps of sherried sultanas, and dried fruits. A gentle spice picks up with clove, earthy coffee, and extra dark chocolate, studded with nuts.
The creamy texture prevails, vanilla fudge, darker notes of berries and cherries, sherried fruit cake, soft barley spice.
I'm Welsh and not biased but this is one good tasting whisky from North Wales. I don't go into all this chocolate come banana, peaty stuff. This is my type of Malt, smooth and good tasting.
Wanted to like this. Fantastic Welsh drams exist given how young the scene is but this is a mess. Thin and tailsy. Clearly a tight heads cut was made anticipating a short time in barrel but the sloppy tails cut has left an off-putting funk to overpower an otherwise fairly characterless spirit. The boast of potential on the label suggests extra years in cask will do wonders: I disagree. Heads can add fantastic character given time, tails usually hang about. At least it lacks burn. Disappointing.
Very smooth ; vanilla milkshake, candy, custard creme biscuit. Easy and moreish - not exciting or dramatic, but very pleasant, mild and relaxing. A summer dram.
Nice whisky. Great delivery service. Will order more when ready. Regards Denis
Smooth, fruity, and very drinkable. Not the most complex flavour profile, but nevertheless enjoyable and an outstanding first effort from a such a young distillery. Highly recommend, especially given the price. A sign of exciting things to come in the world of Welsh whisky.
