Rey Sol is a spectacular extra añejo Tequila from San Matias, made with agave plants that have aged for 7 to 10 years before being harvested. The Tequila itself is matured for 6 years, and presented in decanters designed by Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante. The bottle is shaped like the sun, complete with a rather cheerful face, an admirable moustache and a bow tie. What's not to like here?
Roasted almond, dense caramel, soft agave vegetal hints, a good kick of barrel spice, coffee and lingering dark chocolate.
Friends bought me this for my 50th. Amazingly smooth. I will not be buying anything else.
I consider myself to be a tequila snob. I love trying new tequilas. I had the opportunity to try Rey Sol about 2 years ago. From the first time I inhaled it's lightly sweet freehand and took my first sip, it has been my favorite by a long shot! It has light caramel and citrus notes and is absolutely the smoothest tequila I've ever had, hands down. Usually, when I buy an expensive bottle of tequila or bourbon, I make them last a long time, but that honestly want possible with Rey Sol. It's just too damn good to let it sit in a bottle!
