From the very same people in Cornwall behind the Tarquin's Gin range comes Twin Fin Spiced Golden Rum! This expression brings together pot-still rum from Jamaica and column-still rum from the Dominican Republic, which is combined with a spice mixture including vanilla and orange that's distilled in a flame-fired copper-pot still. To this, a touch of Pedro Ximénez sherry is added, and it's then allowed to rest over oak chips.
Clove-studded orange, guava, a touch of banana, very slightly grassy at points, molasses, soft oaky smoke, brandy snaps and gingerbread.
I'm trying hard to place the flavor. I have heard that it's made from a base of Dominican and Jamaican rums, vanilla, orange, and oak staves that have been soaked in Pedro Ximenez Sherry. The result is awful mess of flavor that cannot be saved. Even by spiced rum standards, Twin Fins takes the lead as the worst rum I've had all year.
Had this in my rum advent calendar today and it's the first one I've not liked. Doesn't taste of rum, just nasty vanilla (which I usually like) and banana.
Total waste of money , no rum taste just strange chemically banana flavour! Nice bottle that’s about all it has going for it !
I had high hopes for this, especially given its price point, but after one drink it’s been put to the back of the cupboard. When drunk neat, all you get is ethanol burn and no real flavour other than smoke. None of the sweet flavour you would expect with rum and no spice at all. Almost like a new batch spirits that has had artificial flavours added without ever being in a barrel. I persevered and tried it with cola, and it made tolerable but I couldn’t have had another one. With the mixer added, you get some banana flavour and maybe a hint of vanilla. But still overwhelmingly ashy, almost oily. Hopefully I’ll find a cocktail recipe that makes it palatable, otherwise it’s going to be a big waste of money.
Taste like smoking the wrong end a cigarette, burning plastic and instant regret
