    Product details

    SangSom

SangSom is a Thai rum that gained great popularity in the 1980s, thankfully it is once again beginning to get a lot more attention internationally. SangSom is made from sugar cane molasses and is aged in oak barrels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is particularly aromatic whilst the flavour is distinctively mellow. It is no wonder that this rum has become so popular!

“There are a few reviewers here describing this ambrosia, this nectar of the gods, as "rough", or "raw". What absolute nonsense! OK, we get it, you're super-sensitive and have the palate of a professional wine-taster. This is one of the finer, purer rums available. Rum, by nature, has a warm, sweet, smooth, kick to it. It's not Chablis, or single-malt whiskey. It's inexpensive and wonderful, and this is the finest rum you're going to find anywhere on the planet. So to all the snobs - kindly shut up and let the rest of us bask in the glow of SangSom!”

    Why not?

Im a true pirate, so i love rum. I think that it tastes alot better than jamaican rums. This style of rum is more like pot stills from venezuela and dominicans but not as heavy in taste. To bring out the taste i tried it as an agricole and added just a tiny amount of 50% sugar water solution. It's not a rum from venezuela but i had drunk a hell of alot worse that costs even more from so called fine accepted rum countries. Wish they could make more aged version of it. A close comparative rum is captain morgan spiced gold, but SangSom has a unique taste. Wish i was a tastebud pro so i could describe the flavours or that i could find a pro review of it. For me its thumbs up straight or mixed.

    I love this stuff

After working in Thailand for 5 years this was my drink of choice. The locals serve it long with Chang Soda Water and a splash of full fat coke. Recomended.

    God awful

I drank this stuff all the time in Thailand and my memories are bittersweet. It has a taste that you get used to and eventually come to love but don't be fooled. It's cheap, nasty and has a variety of industrial uses. If your a rum connoisseur, avoid. If you want to reminisce about holidays or show your friends the flavoured paint stripper you drank, go for it. I'll be ordering a bottle soon for just that reason.
