A favourite here at Master of Malt, this is a truly superb Guatemalan rum, blended using the solera system, and including rums aged between six and 23 years. Sublime stuff, matured in a mix of bourbon and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

Nose

Very sweet and nutty, honey and chocolate. Dark brown sugar, gentle smoke. Pipe tobacco.

Palate

Very sweet and soft. Dark brown sugar, molasses, rounded, so gentle!

Finish

Thick, medium length, hint of smoke on the tail.

Over-priced?????

Yes, this is a very nice rum but I feel you can get something equally as good for around the £40 mark. For me, "Sistema Solera" means very little as we have no idea what percentage of this is from 23 year old stock. Personally, I find Ron Abuelo 12 (£36.34 currently) equally as good for a sipping rum but I accept that taste is highly subjective and fans of Zacapa will, no doubt, disagree with me.

Yummy

I usually drink bourbons and single malts, but this thing here got me hooked on rums. Awesome bouquet, sweet, smooth. Yum yum.

Thin, but Noice.

I... actually am kinda on the fence about this one. It's like... weirdly thin? But it's also really tasty, smooth and drinkable. There are definitely better Guatemalan Rums out there. What THIS rum has that those ones don't, though, is a cool woven straw thing around the bottle. Presumably so your greasy hands don't slip as you double fist this bottle straight into your mouth because I could CHUG this stuff, even though it's a bit weird and thin.
