A richly smoky release from Ron Abuelo over in Panama, as you may have guessed Two Oaks has been matured in two different types of oak cask. Aged for over a decade, initially the rum was rested in bourbon barrels before it was transferred to heavily-charred virgin American oak for a finishing period. Lots of creamy sweetness in there from the initial maturation alongside those char notes.
Peppery oak spice and chocolate-covered raisin, with a hint of vanilla, caramelised almond and milky coffee.

Got this in my Rum advent calendar and was surprised by it. Surprised how initially it has lots of similar traits to a few single malts I could mention. However, very nice in the glass with plenty of sweetness and character.

This was my first dive in to a more premium rum after mostly being a whisky drinker. Good god did I enjoy this! A marvellous introduction to higher end rums if you like premium whiskies with many familiar notes coming out, but proving the final product is more than just the sum of its parts.
I rediscovered rum about 18 months ago and have since sampled many...from £30 upwards. This is possibly the best rum I've had in that time. Ron deserves a medal for creating this one.
