Pusser's 'Gunpowder Proof' Black Label (previously known as Blue Label) is a higher proof traditional British Naval rum, produced using the blending recipe from the Admiralty. Well loved, it picked up a Trophy at the International Spirits Challenge 2016.
The nose is full of dried fruits, dates, prunes, slightly overripe figs. The palate is very sweet, plenty of dark, syrupy, stewed fruits. An interesting pot still character with a pleasant muddiness. Full-bodied. The finish is incredibly long and dark.
Nearly forty years in the Royal Navy, drew my tot for 4 years before it was discontinued in 1970. This is the only rum for me.
Not a rum person but this is the first rum I have actually liked straight. Has a great oak taste with dark burnt sugar sweetness. I Like it.
after 16 years in royal navy having drawn my daily ration when i was 21,I have never found another rum to match this one. None of the other rums with the wording navy on them have ever seen the navy. i served 1954 to 1970 and pussers was the only rum issued. its the best. Danny Spain.
