Banana, obvs, but clean, ripe banana rather than yucky foam banana. The high, ripe esters (flavour molecules) from the rum blend seamlessly with the banana acting as a supercharger to the base flavour rather than an unwelcome intrusion. A lick of spice on the tail end provides intrigue.
Sweet, but not cloying – banana flavour is intense but doesn't overstep the mark – it's still clear that there is good liquid in the mix. Dark caramelised notes lead into the finish.
Long, with the resurgence of the caramelised goodness, and the high esters continue to play for a decent length of time.
A well-balanced, and considered rum. Epic in a Banana Daiquiri, but equally at home in any number of tiki drinks where it provides a huge lift to the natural esters of the rum.

picked this up around black friday - it smells very banana but left me disappointed as not very banana in taste, the base rum isn't bad but there are better project 173 rums in my opinion and better banana rums to pick from!
This is my first step into rum and what a first step. Project 173 was recommended so have it a go and the Banana Rum stood out. It doesn’t disappoint. Ripe banana with a hint of toffee on the nose. Subtle but rich banana taste and a sweetness that’s holds.
Bought it my hubby and it was disappointing. The smell of it from the bottle smells a bit like caramel/toffee. The taste is very subtle, both of us couldn't taste any banana at all. I personally could taste a slight bit of toffee but nothing major. It was just a burning sensation with very little taste. The cherry one is great and thought to try this but it's highly disappointing.
