A fantastic treat from the Planteray range originally created by the company's cellar master Alexandre Gabriel and drinks historian David Wondrich for Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans in 2015. To make it, they infuse the rinds of Queen Victoria pineapples in their white rum for a week then distil it, and infuse the fruit of the pineapples in dark rum for three months. These are married together and left to age in casks for three months. Pineapple deliciousness galore!
Also, if you're wondering about the name, it comes from the character Reverend Stiggins in Pickwick Papers, whose favourite drink was 'pineapple rum'.
We reckon Plantation Pineapple Stiggins' Fancy is one of our Best Rums under £40!
Honeydew melon, cola cubes and a hint of Jamaican ginger cake. Pineapple notes are authentic, but not overblown.
Spiced molasses tart and crumbly shortbread. Pineapple lends juicy and slightly earthy elements. Cassia spiciness develops.
Vanilla, lemon, mango and spearmint.
Repeat order - can't be without this.
Decided to sip a few rums, what with it being Trafalgar day, and opened this bottle - one I had picked up by mistake, someone must have put a bottle of this in the shelf space marked Plantation Overproof. Anyway, I have always been amazed by people who have said a bottle is so bad it is going down the sink. For the first time in 30 years I will seriously give this consideration. What with lockdown, I cannot even invite someone else round to drink it. Buyer beware.
Like the other reviews, do not expect pineapple syrup flavoured rum rubbish, this is a good quality rum! with a subtle pineapple flavour, as expected with how they made this rum, The pineapple flavour and smell is truly amazing and the stand out, it’s not fake is what I’m saying, it tastes and smells like realllll pineapples, which is what they used! the rum is sweet, molasses, spices, oak, classic strong dark rum taste. They only tiny tiny negative I can think of about this rum, is I get a little more of that pure alcohol taste (that I would get from younger or cheaper spirits) but only slightly But I drink neat
Tasted a first bottle yesterday. Very easy to drink but the taste doesn't last in mouth at all. Doesn't smell or taste pineapple too much, not too sugary either. I was expecting better to be honest, but maybe that's because I'm usually a whisky drinker.
The nose has a little more alcohol than expected, but as soon as you sip this delicious rum it explodes with pineapple, not fake sugary at all. Makes an amazing mojitto.
