The 2001 vintage Barbados rum is first aged in bourbon and Sherry casks for nine years, before being finished in Cognac casks for a further three years. Oodles of spice and fruit, with some rather distinctive pineapple notes coming through on the nose.
Buttery at first, with a whole load of tropical fruit notes following (think pineapple, mango and fried plantain).
Oak-y spices begin to develop on the palate - cinnamon and clove particularly. Still packed with fruit sweetness. A touch of tobacco appears later on.
Allspice, brown sugar, pineapple and butterscotch.
