Here we have a white rum from Scotland, distilled from molasses at Ninefold Distillery in Dumfries! Though it's unaged, this spirit is bursting with flavour, an ideal candidate for a Daiquiri. Adorning the bottle is a rather funky six-winged angel, which is the Carruthers family (the founders) crest. Ninefold is a reference to the ninth level of the celestial hierarchy, which is where the angel sits. Must dash, we're off to find out what our family crest is.
A prickle of spice, with ginger, vanilla, treacle and lively citrus, with a very subtle medicinal funky hint and smooth caramel.
It’s full of flavour, versatile, vegan, and made in the UK. What’s not go like? Highly recommend.
Thought it would be a really nice easy drinker but its definitely more catered towards cocktails and mixers to perhaps hide some of the roughness of the spirit. There seems to be lots of Scottish rum about now, but this isnt one of the better ones. Still better than Bacardi.
Ok the sugarcane wasn't grown in Scotland but you get my point. Dr Carruthers, you have crafted something rather special here. This isn't your the white rum you'd find in the supermarket like Bacardi or Mr Morgan, this is the real deal, curated liquid gold. BIG flavour, zesty, sweet spice and a nice rummy notes. If you're after something bland and tasteless, drink vodka. If you're looking to learn what rum is about, Ninefold is what you need. Daiquiris, mojitos, jungle birds you name it, this rum will make it stellar. However, it isn't strictly for cocktails, it's a great wee sipper too. Beautiful bottle, even better liquid inside. Multi-dimensional and a sign of the wonderful things to come from the Ninefold still.
Ordered a bottle based on reviews. V tailored for cocktails rather than on its own.
Slightly disappointed unfortunately. Was gifted a couple of miniatures from a friend as we are both avid Rum fans and I was particularly looking forward to trying this (over ice) given there is a fairly limited amount of Scottish-made white rum available. Overall taste was very vanilla focused with small notes of spice but nothing memorable to convince me to purchase a bottle. However it is extremely smooth which is a plus.
