This is the seventh installment in The Master Blender Collection from Mount Gay and it pays tribute to its late distiller Reynold Hinds, better known as Blues. Mount Gay owns one of the first types of column stills to be invented, a rare 100% copper Coffey Still which lay in a state of disrepair for decades until it was recommissioned in 2019. The revival of the historic still was only possible thanks to the extensive knowledge of Blues, having spent over 50 years working at the distillery. Produced from 100% Barbados molasses, this expression is the first time the distillery has released a rum produced on the recommissioned still – a single batch, matured in bourbon casks for four years in the tropical climes of St. Lucy and selected by legendary Master Blender Trudiann Branker.
At first sight, the rum has golden hues. As it opens, the nose is full of pear, vanilla, nutmeg and light leather aromas. The palate brings grapefruit, oak, honey and lightly spiced notes of cinnamon with layers of aromas that open up with every sip.
