This is a blend of casks from two distilleries in Jamaica: Monymusk and Hampden. The latter distillery has Scottish roots, and is one of the oldest sugar plantations in the country. It has always been known as a rum distillery of high calibre, making spirit for blending. This XO rum was bottled by Mezan, and it is a blend of rums aged between 4 and 23 years of age, re-casked and allowed to marry for many years before bottling.
Bananas and vanilla. A little burnt sugar with a touch of toffee brittle and peanut butter.
Plantains and walnut loaf. A touch of brandy butter, crème caramel and mixed spice.
Spicy finish with candied peels.
dark rum doesn't mean old rum, as evidenced by the marketplace that uses caramel coloring with abandon. Mezan has no caramel color. the natural color of the rum is in evidence, not the Madison Avenue interpretation of what color old rum should be. And ask your favorite brand if they add sugar or glycerin to their rum... or staves of oak instead of resting in oak barrels. I'll bet they cannot say with a straight face that they don't do those things.. OH, Mezan? Nope. NO chill filtering, NO caramel color, NO sugar added, NO glycerin. Untouched rum.
Great smell when I opened it, reeaaaaally good once I put some lemon juice and some cane sugar in it. Probably great when spiced for a few months.
Rich banana, nut and a hint of molasses. If you drink rum and coke this is a very fine choice, not top heavy and flu of flavour.
I enjoy the mezan rums very much but not this one! Such an overpowering plastic and burned rubber taste, try one of the other mezan rums they are all winners
Probably refill bourbon casks.
