Feast your eyes upon Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old, a wonderfully flavoursome Cuban rum that is no stranger to awards. Back when it was created, this was the first Havana Club expression that was intended for sipping neat rather than for using in cocktails and mixed drinks. Though saying that, if you think your cocktails could use an upgrade of rich, aged rum tastiness, this stuff is ace. We've been particular impressed when using it in place of a whiskey for Old Fashioned and Manhattan cocktails...
Sweet and buttery with intermingled notes of toffee, honeycomb and coffee, a little spice and dried peels with notes of orchard fruits and biscuits.
Full and rich with notes of cigar box, particularly the cedar wood thereof, guava and banana leaf with more toffee.
Fruity, creamy finish. Lots of complexity.
Really tasty, couldn’t figure out the flavour at first, I thought it was similar to Malibu or peach which I usually hate but this was lovely!
Since Xmas spiced rum and rum is my new thing - much to the annoyance of my other half. I started drinking kraken with a cube of ice, loved it. I started looking at rum online and found out that spiced rum wasn't really rum and me being me I wanted to try rum. I bought a bottle of Havana 7 as it was in my budget and was recommended for sipping. Now coming from kraken to this took me 3/4 of the bottle to properly adjust to the flavours of HC7. All i was getting to start with was wood/smoke and leather taste from start to finish so I had a break from it for a couple of weeks. Now when I went back to HC7 i was pleasantly surprised with what was going on on my pallette. Now on entry I'm getting toffee/vanilla moving on to smokey wood and spice on the tongue followed by a smooth exit with only slight alcohol burn. I have to say I think ill always have a bottle of this in the cupboard it took a while to adjust to the flavour but was definitely worth the wait.
Overrated. You drink it as a best of a bunch when you're out. Its not good neat, its good as a mixer, for this price there's better rums out there. If your in the UK try appleton estate or red leg spiced (not pinapple version) for better tasting rums. Overrated.
Recipe appears to have been changed for the worse when the packaging changed from the tall thin bottle to the current short, squat, package. I have multiple examples, bought from around the world, and there is a definite difference poured and tasted side by side.Older package has a much sweeter taste of wood, chocolate, and tobacco.Newer package is more whisky oriented.Maybe they got new aging barrels?
I hope it's like Cahuita coconut and vanilla run. That was liquid gold nectar, drank neat that slid smoothly , so buying this may be a worthy substitute
