Feast your eyes upon Havana Club Añejo 7 Year Old, a wonderfully flavoursome Cuban rum that is no stranger to awards. Back when it was created, this was the first Havana Club expression that was intended for sipping neat rather than for using in cocktails and mixed drinks. Though saying that, if you think your cocktails could use an upgrade of rich, aged rum tastiness, this stuff is ace. We've been particular impressed when using it in place of a whiskey for Old Fashioned and Manhattan cocktails...
Sweet and buttery with intermingled notes of toffee, honeycomb and coffee, a little spice and dried peels with notes of orchard fruits and biscuits.
Full and rich with notes of cigar box, particularly the cedar wood thereof, guava and banana leaf with more toffee.
Fruity, creamy finish. Lots of complexity.

Beautiful tasting Rum, VERY smooth but with the perfect amount of burn. Sweet, but not overly so. Slight hints of chocolate, perfect to sip neat. As good as it gets in this price range.
Havana Club is owned by Pernod these days; whatever else you might say about "the man", if its wide distribution means I have easy access to this little gem for a reasonable price then I'm all for it! For under £25 (and regularly £20-22 in supermarkets - which is sometimes less than the cheaper Anejo) this is a stunner. I think it's at that cut-off price range - just on the edge of being a sipper, but possibly considered a little pricey for a mixer. To my mind it just about does both. My partner and I exemplify this: she likes it neat with a little ice (she says the smell is like a party), but I prefer it with ginger beer and a wedge of orange or lime and LOADS of ice. If I could only have one rum it would probably be this one. Luckily I have lots of rum so I can say that without having to honour it ;)
Sip this neat in a glen cairn, tell me your not thinking of a sherryed highland scotch. Lovley rum.
Toffee followed by charred oak. Simple, yet for the money, it's a bargain. Bought it to pass round the campfire, and it did the job happily.
