Gosling’s Black Seal combines rums from both pot and continuous column stills. The name comes from the black wax that was originally used to seal the bottles, but now there’s an actual black seal on the label. The iconic rum has been produced in Bermuda since 1806, which is a pretty long time. "If you're doing something right, don't fix it" and all that... You’d be a fool not to serve this in a Dark ‘n’ Stormy, as the cocktail is actually trademarked by the Gosling brothers.
Sweet, dark, cooked fruits. Fruitcake, spice, herbal.
Balanced with thick, sweet spices, stewed fruits.
Spiced, crisp, tingling.
For the price this is the best dark rum you're going to find. I totally disagree that it's not a sipper (though agree it is a notch-above mixer) and I'm a choosy git when it comes to my rum. Yeah I'd rather have a bottle of Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva but that's getting on for twice the price. Put this in a taste test with a lot of more expensive rums and it still stands out.
Reminds me of Christmas in a bottle. Cinnamon, spices, Xmas pud all rolled into one. Great in a tall glass with ice on a cold winters night. Not a sipper for me.
We in Nova Scotia like rum a lot, and are pretty choosy. Gosling's is right up our alley!
