A spiced rum created by the chaps behind The Rum & Crab Shack in St. Ives (which serves tasty seafood and top rum - sounds excellent to us). Dead Man's Fingers rum is made using a blend of Caribbean rums alongside a hearty helping of spices. When ordering, make sure to only ask for measurements in fingers like the cool people in films do. "Three fingers of Dead Man's Fingers please, barkeeper!"
Pineapple, Seville orange, dried raisins dusted with cinnamon and black pepper. A touch of creamy vanilla develops later on.
For a small batch, local rum (I'm from Cornwall), this has to be one of the best!. Smell: warm and only a light scent of spice. Little sweet overtones. Quite pleasant. Neat: nice and warming, quite alcoholic taste, little aftertaste, not very spicy! With coke: very nice with coke. Very warming, easy drinking nice choice for a local rum!
Tries it few times and to me, it only taste like caramel and vanilla syrup with some alcohol.
First drank this at the rum and crab shack whilst on holiday in St Ives, before this I'd never drank spiced rum before. On returning home I've worked my way through many spiced rums but have failed to find one I like as much as this. Best enjoyed with a splash of ginger beer and a dash of bitters.
For my amateur pallet and having the 35cl sample with 2 cubes of ice I found it harsh to being with until the ice had melted more....I guess the water opened the Rum up as i've read. Of course with Coke or Ginger bee/ale I'm sure it could taste like other nice common Rums on the market, that not being a bad thing at all. Perhaps some more experienced Rum drinkers will be able to break it down better than me but from an amateur point of view it was fine.
