Chairman's Reserve Forgotten Casks

Sit down, gentle reader, and we shall tell you a tale. On the 2nd May 2007 a great fire ravaged St Lucia Distillers distillery, destroying much of the storage buildings. "Good heavens!" You might exclaim, and rightly so. The result of this was the distillers had to find new storage locations for their casks, in all manner of places. They forgot the location of some of the casks, only to find them recently, and it turned out the rum they found was sublime... From a PR standpoint, it was a piece of good fortune, very lucky indeed.

Nose

Spicy and intense with coffee beans and cocoa, maple spice and vanilla, a little potpourri and coffee beans.

Palate

Dark rich spices, apricot jam, golden syrup, toffee brittle, coffee and treacle.

Finish

Plum and raisin.

I’ve tried a lot of the chairman’s reserve range and this is definitely one of its best

Subtly satisfying

A nice rum that works well, for me at least, with cola or other mixers. The flavours get a little lost in some cocktails but merits a try. I like the vanilla and toasty notes that give a subtle taste. I was lucky enough to try an original Forgotten Cask and although this one is not that it is good value and worth trying

Disappointed

I bought a bottle of this a few years ago for Christmas. I am not a rum drinker, however, as soon as he opened it the whole room was filled with a vanilla aroma, not overly sweet, just a smooth lovely rum. As my husband loved it so much I bought him another bottle for his recent birthday and we were both very disappointed. No longer a good rum, just.an average rum which is available at a much cheaper price. Sadly another just another company trying to make money off a good slogan. Avoid.
