Captain Morgan is a dark rum seen on back-bars around the world. This is made using a blend of Jamaican, Guyanese and Bajan rums. Great in loads of cocktails and mixed drinks - Captain & Cola is a classic for a reason.
Spiced, rich. Molasses and pepper.
Full, warming. Stone fruits, dried peels, a hint of aniseed.
Aniseed develops into the finish, honey too.
It has an artificial or synthetic flavour and leaves an aftertaste of burnt caramel, not nice!
I like my rums, but can't get on with this one, I find it pungent (not in an appealing way) and harsh on the palate. OK as a mixer. Jamaican rums tend to have that stronger flavour, I find, and there are some I like. But not this. YMMV...
Great tasting rum. Anyone who is snobbish about rum needs to remember it was intended for rough seafarers and not expensive lounges.
I'm a bit prejudiced about Rum since it is may favorite drink-especially Dark or Amber.
Cannon fodder reviewer below is off his head, Morgans rum is pretty nasty and NOTHING like expensive rums, it is about level or one notch above Lambs rum which says a lot, Morgans has an after taste of burnt caramel and burnt wood so tell me an expensive rum that does this? Put your hard earned £$£$£ to something decent like Flor de Caña or Appleton and do yourself a favour.
