The Black Gate Distillery in New South Wales doesn't only produce ace Australian whisky – it also makes some fantastic Australian rum! And you're in luck, because That Boutique-y Rum Company has got its hands on some to bottle for the Australian Series (alongside oodles of excellent Australian whiskies release by That Boutique-y Whisky Company)! Made with molasses sourced from Queensland and fermented with speciality rum yeast for up to two weeks, the rum is distilled using direct-fired pot stills, and this one was then aged for 3 years before bottling.
Batch 1 is a release of 220 bottles.
Oily smoke with a touch of liquorice underneath, joined by runny caramel and treacle to balance it out.
It remains enjoyably oily on the palate, now with subtle savoury hints of oat cakes and oak at the core.
Brown sugar, cassia, and black pepper.

It’s like they have bottled rum and raisin ice cream, both on the nose and palate, it’s awesome. There is more complexity there of course, a richer, spicier, more caramel complexity, beautiful stuff.
