A lip-smacking expression from 1423's Compañero range, based around rum from Trinidad and flavoured with plenty of orange alongside various tropical deliciousness. Well suited to enjoying alongside particularly sweet puddings, we reckon.
Fragrant citrus oil, grounded by hints of charred oak and brown sugar.
Juicy orange, cinnamon stick, Bounty bars and peach.
Five spice, caramel and yet more orange.
$32.80 - $75.62
This is predominantly an orange liqueur and NOT a true rum, although it's clearly rum based. Very sweet and certainly not a rum you'd want to spend an entire evening with, unless you have an incredibly 'sweet tooth'! Totally delicious as an after-dinner tipple, especially around Christmas time or at the end of a BBQ on a warm summers evening.
Tried a taster of this. It’s delicious but not sure how many of them I could drink. Very sweet Orange liqueur, pretty similar to Cointreau with the added sweetness of the rum. Highly recommended as a short tipple.
Explosion of flavour on the tongue……reminds me a little of Grand Marnier….but in a good way.
On the nose Compañero Elixir is nothing special. But that is where my criticism of this rum starts and finishes! For me this is up there as one of the best rums I’ve ever had, certainly the best rum I’ve drank neat. It’s got a syrupy texture to it, that is both sweet and delicious, and also zesty and zingy, especially so in the aftertaste. Neat it does possess a slight alcohol burn, but nothing too harsh. In fact, this rum is so scrumptious, that I’d say the need for any sort of mixer is redundant. However, if you just can’t resist the urge to try Compañero Elixir as a long drink, it works well with either sparkling orange, or mango, and of course Coca-Cola. Probably best with the latter in my opinion, because when mixed with coke, the orange flavouring becomes more prominent and lingers that little bit longer in the aftertaste. So, if you like your rums sweet, very sweet, then you definitely need to have a bottle of Compañero Elixir, in your rum collection, it’s a no brainer.
Smooth enough neat, tasty enough with mixers. A lovely taste, reminiscent of exotic holidays - sun-soaked beaches and coconut cocktails.
