Now here's something you don't see very often. It's South African 'Port'. This is made from the classic Portuguese varieties tinta barocca and touriga nacional grown in Stellenbosch which are fermented quickly and then have unaged brandy aged to stop fermentation to produce and intensely sweet wine. Delaire Graff then mature it for a year in old oak barrels before bottling. This makes a great and unusual alternative to vintage Port. It tastes particularly nice with chocolate puddings.
Ripe dark berry fruit like sloes and brambles, lots of spice and dark chocolate, intense sweetness balanced by a fresh acidity.
