200 Years of Midleton Distillery
Not just a milestone. A legacy in motion.
Two hundred years ago, in 1825, Midleton Distillery opened its doors in County Cork – a move that would go on to shape Irish whiskey in ways nobody could have imagined.
It is now home to some of the most sought-after and respected Irish whiskeys in the world, from the collectable Midleton Very Rare series to groundbreaking releases like the Silent Distillery Collection and Forêt de Tronçais.
To commemorate the 200th anniversary, Midleton has released some incredible new whiskeys. The 2025 vintage of Very Rare and Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter Six – the oldest single pot still Irish whiskey ever released and the last liquid ever to emerge from a site that has produced some of Ireland’s finest spirits for 150 years.
The milestone offers a chance to reflect on the influence Midleton has had beyond its own walls. Home to Jameson, Redbreast, Green Spot, Powers and more, the distillery has played a central role in preserving and evolving Irish whiskey and the single pot still tradition – keeping it alive during lean times and helping it thrive again in the modern era.
This year’s Midleton vintage
Midleton Very Rare 2025
Midleton Very Rare 2025 marks a bold new chapter in the iconic Irish whiskey series. For the first time, six distinct distillate styles have been brought together, carefully selected from Midleton’s prestigious A2 Warehouse. Master distiller Kevin O’Gorman includes three-grain whiskey styles – among them a 22-year-old batch made from a barley and malted barley mash bill – matured in refill American oak. A boosted pot still contribution adds richness and layered spice.
Nose
Opens with sweet waves of caramelised apple, toffee fudge and vanilla, while the subtle herbal and floral notes of freshly picked garden mint and lavender slowly build over time, complementing the woodland spices of cinnamon and nutmeg thanks to the rich influence of the American oak. The pot still spices, and sweet grain character of this intricate whiskey come together, creating structure and complexity while complementing the fruits and oak.
Palate
Textured layers of sweet honeycomb with soft fruits and delicate herbal undertones. White pepper with a mild hint of chilli oil works in tandem with the nuanced citrus and orchard fruits while the sweet nature of this intriguing whiskey continues to build with decadent flavours of treacle, toffee, vanilla, and sugar-glazed fruits.
Finish
Rich and lasting. The fruits begin to softly fade, leaving the oak and pot still spiced with the final word.
“As we celebrate 200 years of whiskey-making excellence at Midleton Distillery, it is a true honour to craft a vintage that commemorates this remarkable legacy. Midleton Very Rare 2025 is a whiskey of depth and balance, meticulously composed from six distinct distillate styles, each representing generations of mastery, innovation, and dedication that have become synonymous with Midleton Very Rare. This milestone release not only pays tribute to the past but also looks to the future. As we honour this historic occasion, my team and I remain committed to laying down more extraordinary whiskeys that will continue to shape and inspire the Midleton Very Rare legacy for the next 200 years and beyond.”

The 2024 edition of Midleton Very Rare sees Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman adjust the balance once again – this time upping both the grain whiskey content and the medium-style pot still component. He’s also leaned into first-fill American oak casks, giving this year’s release a little more structure and vibrancy.
A rare and refined addition to the Midleton Very Rare range, this release finishes vintage Irish whiskeys in French oak sourced from the historic Tronçais forest. Crafted in collaboration with Taransaud cooperage and matured in T5 oak casks, the whiskey is presented in a duck egg blue bottle and housed in a cabinet built from the same forest. A masterclass in detail, from forest floor to final drop.
A tribute to former Master Distiller Barry Crockett, this annual release is composed of a selection of bourbon- and new American oak-aged single-pot still whiskey. First introduced in 2011, it remains one of the most acclaimed entries in the Midleton Very Rare series – delicate, elegant, and unmistakably Midleton.
