    Lyme Bay Winery Traditional Mead

Here we have a traditionally styled mead, a time-honoured tipple which dates back hundreds if not thousands of years, from Lyme Bay Winery in Devon. It’s made in small batches with honey, and bottled at 14.5% ABV. A fab pairing with cheeses.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Full of sweet dessert wine flavours, with a refreshing dryness and full of warming, rich honey, with a hint of honeycomb on the finish.

    Great mead

Probably one of the nicest "Fake" meads you can buy

This is a very nice drink, to me it sits perfectly inbetween Lyndisfarne traditional (a pyment made from fermented grape juice, added spirits and then backsweetened with honey) and Moniak traditional (a "Proper" mead made with actual fermented honey). You can be forgiven for possibly being fooled by thinking this is a "real" mead if you have never had a pyment mead before, but taste testing this alongside the Moniak traditional and Lindifarne traditional you can tell straight away that this is made in a very similar way to the Lindifarne, producing similar wine-like tones to the aroma. The up front taste is one of a sweet desert wine, upon swallowing there is a quick hit of strong-dry wine along with the associated heat which quickly fades into a sweet, light honey taste. The honey taste it leaves along with the warming on the throat is similar to the Moniak, but the Moniak is much better up front and throughout with added certain something, that just makes it impossible to choose this over the Moniak. Funny thing is, Moniak is now owned and run by Lyme Bay, which explains the similarities, but the wording on the back of the bottles confirms the Moniak to be a real mead and the Lyme Bay (by omission) to be a pyment. Still like I said, it's a really nice drink, if not a "true" mead but a pyment.

    Mock-Mead

Honey flavoured wine, not genuine mead

    Lovely

First time I've ever tried mead. This bottle had been in my girlfriends cupboard for years, I drank it in 3 days. I love honey and alcohol, so it's win win

A superb wine which does not miss the inclusion of grapes.

I was first introduced to mead at a medieval banquet and have loved it ever since. As a dessert wine it takes some beating, especially at the price. Recently, I have bought it from a retailer who sets up at various fairs in Kent, but since stocks are fast running low, I will have to order a couple of bottles online.
