“Exceptional. One of the best liqueurs ever tried. I've worked in some prestigious cocktail and premium spirits bars and I've never tried anything like this. Compliments to the boys at SweetDram. Lovely rounded cardamom and cinnamon base notes, zingy citrus top notes, it has the appeal of gin in its complexity but with dimensions you can't achieve with gin alone. It has slight medicinal qualities of classic French and Italian amaros but nothing so aggressive that it would deter first time drinkers. But the most striking is the balance and the emergent flavour is truly unique. Above all, it's sophisticated but unassuming and somehow never seems grandiose. Delicious on ice, or with tonic (personal favourite). There will always be a place in my cabinet for Escubac. ”

Escubac

Escubac is an impressive, handsomely presented liqueur produced as a collaboration between Sweetdram (a collective of distillers now based in Edinburgh) and Combier (a long-running French distillery in Saumur). It's a re-imagining of a traditional, long-forgotten French liqueur, featuring notes of caraway, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, coriander, cubeb, green anise, lemon, liquorice, sweet and bitter orange, nutmeg, star anise and vanilla. Excellent as an aperitif, this can be enjoyed over ice or with tonic water if you prefer a longer serve.
