A spicy, smoky Mexican liqueur made with chile ancho, which are dried poblano chiles. These little beauties are macerated in neutral cane spirit for half a year, then blended with a selection of other ingredients and allowed to rest a little longer for the flavoured to marry. Sure to make for a top cocktail ingredient...
I bought this to try as an ingredient in a clear Bloody Mary- it added a lovely heat and depth of flavour without overwhelming the other elements. Will probably buy a full bottle once it’s in stock!
Quite a rich taste like a caramel brandy with a spicy after kick
I love Ancho chilli - its a great addition to a lot of mexican food adding bags of "chilli" without boosting the heat factor. This is the way it works for me in this Liqueur - yes there is a bite but it doesn't overpower. I had a margarita 1.5: 1.5: 0.75: 0.5 tequila/ancho/lime/agave and definitley a winner
Was introduced to this by a local barman the other day. Expected fire, but got lovely smoke with a hint of spice & liquorice - a little like the flavour from chilli plant leaves. You're probably not supposed to have it neat, but being a malt drinker, I coped. Interesting & very pleasant.
