Drambuie
Drambuie is a very famous whisky liqueur made with Scotch whisky, heather and herbs and spices. Produced in West Lothian, Scotland, Drambuie offers flavours such as anise, nutmeg and saffron.
Drambuie has a long history dating back to the 18th century when it was first created in Scotland.
Drambuie is often enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but can also be used in cocktails. It is a versatile liqueur that can be enjoyed in many ways.
The new recipe is a poor imitation of the former master piece. The honey taste is overpowering and the depth and roundedness of the previous dram has disappeared. Bitterly disappointing- like others I will never order again. Off to try and find an alternative Maybe the Lindores Abbey aqua vitae. ??
Not a lot. It's a shadow of its former self. The recipe has been altered. Why have you done this? I will never drink another dram of the new stuff.
I don't care abut the new bottle but stop saying the recipe hasn't changed, it has! I have been enjoying Drambuie for 40+ years. The new version is paler in the glass and weaker than the old recipe. I can drink the new one straight down which was impossible with the old one as it took your breath away and was made to sip and savour. On a recent cruise I sent my Drambuie back several times as it was almost clear in the glass and tasted watered down. I now realise it was the new recipe and I won't be buying it in the bottle or by the glass anywhere again. How idiotic to mess with a perfect recipe!!
From the 1970's thru the 1990's I used to treat myself to Drambuie during the winter holiday season. In the late 90's I stopped, for no particular reason. Then at last in 2016 I treated myself to a bottle. Sadly, the old familiar bottle style was gone, replaced by a stripped-down, nondescript, run-of-the-mill design, but I trusted that the old familiar taste would still be there. Boy, was I disappointed! It's different, and not in a good way. I can't quite put my finger on the disagreeable changes, but I seem to detect a subtle black pepper note for one thing, which I hate. WHEN YOU SCREW AROUND WITH PERFECTION, ALL YOU DO IS RUIN IT! After 2 1/2 years that bottle still sits on my shelf, nearly full. And there it will sit till I finally throw it away I drunk. For decades, Drambuie was like an old Christmas friend to me. But then those fools killed my old friend, and I miss it (including the old bottle).
Just tried the new recipe for the first time, god-awful! I used to really enjoy Drambuie but this new version is syrupy and horrible, with a really nasty tail rather than the old smooth finish.
