The original Wolfe Brothers were 20th-century jewellers based in Leeds, whose store became the site of a micro-distillery at the start of the lockdown back in 2020. With bars shut, a group of like-minded hospitality veterans piled together to fulfill a long-held ambition to create a cracking Yorkshire gin.
Bold and bright with big fresh herbs, warming citrus, and savoury elements from piney juniper and cedar wood.
I really wanted to like this, it's made locally and has a great story to be developed and grown from covid. Unfortunately, it's an average gin that's on par with Gordon's and there is nothing to write home about. Notes of juniper hit strongly, with the citrus coming through afterwards. Makes a decent G&T, and pairs well with a flavoured tonic but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy again when there are much better independent distilleries producing far superior products.
A great independent gin. Makes a banging G&T with strong piney juniper and bright, bittersweet citrus and warm dry slice. Ideal for a Tom Collins and cracking in a dry martini with a pink grapefruit twist.
Big hits of citrus and juniper, exactly what I want in a classic London Dry.
