While the original Whitley Neill Gin is inspired by the exotic flavours of Africa, their Rhubarb & Ginger Gin variation takes inspiration from closer to the Whitley family's homestead.
Enjoyably fruity on the nose, with rhubarb preserve and baked apple. Hints of leafy herbs grow in the background.
Orange, ginger and coriander arrive on the palate, though it's still dominated by rhubarb. A core of earthy juniper builds.
A tangy touch of tartness appears later on, balanced by black pepper and gingerbread.

Well- I shook mine with lemon juice- straight up cocktail- garnished with a Luxardo Cherry! Maybe I am a gin heathen but I LOVED IT!
Such a dissapointment. I'm not well off enough to easily get over having paid for this. Having tried Rhubarb gin in the pub and been blown away I rashly bought this thinking it would be such a treat for me. But it is so sickly sweet, has none of the wonderful flavour of the Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb & Ginger Liqueur I'd enjoyed so much. And I shall be giving this away. Even watered down with plain gin, soda water and added bitters this is hideous.
The bottle is lovely, what a shame about the contents. It is overly sweet. The flavour is synthetic and not, to me at all rhubarb or ginger, it is almost like sherbet to me, with a synthetic flavour. I am looking to find someone to give the remains to, I can't drink it. I am so disappointed as I so wanted to like it. There is another fabulous rhubarb and ginger gin on the market though - thankfully.
I was looking forward to a gin tart with rhubarb and warm with ginger, but found instead a sweetened concoction which was unpleasant to my taste, whether alone over ice, at room temperature, or mixed with tonic. I shall not be returning to this one!
Wished someone told me it tasted like cough syrup.. diasppointing! Tried pairing it with vaious tonic water, from schweppes, to fever tree and east imperial. Even tried with ginger ale.. nothing works! Buyers beware!
