    Whitley Neill Navy Strength Gin

Whitley Neill Navy Strength is a premium gin bottled at a robust 57% ABV, inspired by the tradition of Navy Strength gin from back in the days when the British Royal Navy kept barrels of gin below deck near gunpowder supplies. The high alcohol content ensured that in the event of a leak, the gin would still be flammable, keeping the gunpowder viable for use. This necessity gave rise to the term "Navy Strength," signifying a gin with a higher ABV.

Juniper is the star botanical here alongside coriander seed, angelica root, liquorice root powder, and dried orange peel. Fresh lime peel also took centre stage, as a nod to the limes the British Navy gave its sailors to ward off scurvy, which also gave rise to their nickname ‘Limeys’ amongst American sailors who were dubious about this technique.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The higher ABV brings forth an amplified botanical scent, particularly highlighting the juniper and citrus elements.

    Palate

Juniper takes the lead, supported by a zesty lime peel and layers of spice from coriander seed and angelica root. The sweetness from liquorice root and the bright citrus from dried orange peel round out the flavour profile.

    Finish

A balanced, elegant finish with lingering citrus and herbal notes.
