    Monkey 47 Dry Gin

An unusual gin from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a unique ingredient. No, not that! Lingonberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin, and the fact it's bottled at a healthy 47%. It seems that the botanicals speak for themselves, as the gin has received bucketfuls of critical acclaim. Some say less is more, not for Monkey 47!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Oh there is a lot going on here... woody, vegetable smells under pin fresh grassy citrus notes and botanical sweetness, like a pine forest after the rain.

    Palate

Predictably complex, this is a robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours. It's very well structured, and difficult to unpick but a citrus fresh start segues into pine and wood notes for a drying finish.

    Finish

    Wooded and reassuringly heavy.

    Overall

A unique gin, that is crying out to be made into a Martini. It'll need an equally robust vermouth though.

    Best I've ever had

Tried this for the first time last night at my local cigar bar. I immediately noticed the several new gin selections they had and asked the bartender and owner if they could recommend one. The bartender hadn't had a chance to try them but said he was most excited for the monkey. The owner had tried them already and she said the Monkey was her favorite. I got it with tonic and a little lime juice and was blown away. Best I ever had. I got a second G&T that night with one of the other new bottles they had but after the Monkey any other gin just doesn't compare. Safe to say I'll be drinking this a lot now.

    Delicious

Discovered this on Saturday night with a slice of grapefruit and fever tree tonic. So delicious I have bought a bottle. Looking forward to 6.00. pm!!

    Over rated

The beautiful branding and design really don't justify the cost here, despite it's Schwarzwald heritage. Why 47 ingredients? You certainly can't taste them all. Seems like a marketing ploy to me... Even the most verbose booze snob would struggle to name even half I reckon. It tastes confused to my palate - not really knowing where in the flavour spectrum it really wants to sit... Not overtly citrusy, floral, spiced or sweet to start. Complex is correct, so lots to talk about - does it make a great gin? Not convinced. The finish reminiscent of cough syrup.

    Perfect

Great, best gin I have ever had! Smooth, good with just ice or tonic or ginger ale. Will definitely get more

    Flavor bomb in your mouth!

Love it. I asked for top-shelf gin for Christmas. Monkey 47 and Botanist were my 2 favorites, but this is stand alone.
