    Monkey 47 Dry Gin

An unusual gin from the Black Forest in Germany, Monkey 47 contains a unique ingredient. No, not that! Lingonberries! The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin, and the fact it's bottled at a healthy 47%. It seems that the botanicals speak for themselves, as the gin has received bucketfuls of critical acclaim. Some say less is more, not for Monkey 47!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Oh there is a lot going on here... woody, vegetable smells under pin fresh grassy citrus notes and botanical sweetness, like a pine forest after the rain.

    Palate

Predictably complex, this is a robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours. It's very well structured, and difficult to unpick but a citrus fresh start segues into pine and wood notes for a drying finish.

    Finish

    Wooded and reassuringly heavy.

    Overall

A unique gin, that is crying out to be made into a Martini. It'll need an equally robust vermouth though.

    Yummy

Quite yummy. Had it in a tall glass with some ice, lemon slice and some tonic. Cheerio.

    Lovely tipple

Should be sipped with ice or made into a martini. No tonic should go near this. Very nice gin!

    GOT UP FOR GEEKS

Sure it is complex, sure it is multi-faceted, sure it has a gazillion flavours...BUT! It is not proper gin. Goodness me people...it is nothing more than very well made "SCHNAPPS", I.M.O.P. Gin has been, as a successor to Genever (traditionally malt based) a neutral grained spirit (not molasses), and as such, doesn't have an underlying sweetness. Juniper and three to four other herbs is all that it takes...'keep it simple stupid is a phrase that comes to mind'.

    Brilliant

This is a awesome drink ..That guy who puts 2.5 is a cheap arse who doesnt know what he's doing.. Go for a cheaper one so you'll value it more..

You don't need 47 ingredients to make anything

It is a good gin. But no gin, whisky, wine, or perfume can be said to be universally the best, or even better than other top ones. It all comes down to taste. However good this gin is, I am put off by the price, and the smooth marketing. Forty-seven ingredients? They can't be serious that this matters. It is like I grab 47 tubes of paint and mix them together to create my special color, which I call 47 mud. That so many people are pursuing it with so many superlatives mostly shows their marketing is working.
