Rock Rose Gin is made at the Dunnet Bay Distillery all the way up in Caithness, Scotland. This very northerly gin features an alluring botanical selection including locally harvested Rhodiola Rosea, Rowan Berries, Sea Buckthorn, Blaeberries, Verbena, Coriander Seed, Cardamom and Juniper from two different countries - Italy and Bulgaria. They use a traditional copper pot still, which of course has a name (it's Elizabeth).
Bright berries, followed by waves of soft florals (heather and rose), savoury maritime hints and lively juniper. Subtly creamy on the finish with vanilla.
Had this yesterday - it was served on the rocks with orange slice and rosemary sprig (the bar person heated the rosemary first to release the oils) - it was gorgeous!!!
Deserves 5 stars! We first tasted it in Scotland, and we want more!
I am an amateur gin enthusiast. I have sampled 80+ gins and can honestly say that Rock Rose is one of my all time favorite gins. It is delicate, smooth, fresh and utterly delightful.
Works well with Fever Tree Tonic but needed some citrus, I tried both lime and grapefruit and I think the grapefruit worked the best. Was a bit rubbish in all the cocktails I tried sadly, flavour got lost.
No need for ice or water with this one.
