A rather tasty gin from the Crafty Distillery in Dumfries and Galloway. They make their Hill & Harbour Gin using a base featuring their very own wheat grain spirit alongside a selection of 11 botanicals - the likes of Noble Fir Pine needles and Bladderwrack seaweed, among others. Surprisingly fruity, but well balanced with herbaceous notes making their way to the fore on the palate.
Fresh lime leads into a tropical fruit sweetness (Pineapple? Mango?), with a touch of sea salt, orris and piney juniper.
I had this gin not long after the distillery opened and thought it delicious but now it tastes of not much with an after taste of damp cardboard. Have it with a decent tonic and add a garnish with a bit of flavour. Also since they changed the bottle style, the cork is a nightmare to get out
I was really looking forward to trying Hills and Harbour gin, based on the reviews that I'd read on MoM, but was actually quite disappointed. It is smooth and makes a decent G&T, but I find it a bit tasteless when compared with the likes of Whitby gin or Harris gin, which also use seaweed as one of the botanicals, but pack much more flavour.
Best gin out there! Fantastic tastes of what galloway has to offer
Cracking gin with some interesting and unusual botanicals. Very nicely balanced.
First had this in Kirkcudbright. The knowledgeable landlady suggested I tried it with mango. Superb. Definitely my favourite gin. Bought a bottle straight away.
