Bloom Gin Bottling Note

Bloom Gin is a superb London Dry Gin produced by Greenall's and named "Bloom" in reference to the floral nature of its botanicals: honeysuckle, pomelo and chamomile. In 2010 it was awarded a Platinum Medal at the World Spirits Competition.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Floral nose with thick fruit. Only a hint of juniper.

Palate: Honeyed palate entry with citrus and just a little blossom. Spiced.

Finish: Restrained juniper and spice.

Bloom Gin Reviews

A stand up Gin

I think bloom gin is great for the price it is lovely smooth gin works well as a g&t or as a base for cocktails. Very easy to drink a lot of it.

Good subtle gin

As everyone must be aware by now, this is a subtle gin with delicate flavours. It does not work well in an Aviation cocktail (with maraschino and creme de violettes) as it has insufficient botanical "punch" and makes for a strangely etiolated overall taste. However, there is no reason not to have it with a good tonic where its essential character may come out. Regarding cocktails, it is a case of matching its delicacy with the other ingredients to hand.

Great for cocktails, light & smooth - juniper free zone.

Usual delicate taste, the total absence of juniper comes through making this a smooth but different gin drinking experience. I loved it as a change to the juniper heavy varieties, it's novel and pleasant on the tongue. Great for cocktails too.

Balanced, smooth, delicate

I like this gin. Easy drinking, perfect in a Gimlet, great with soda. It doesn't overpower with aggressive botanicals-they slip in in pleasant sequence. Nice packaging. At this price point it is my equal favourite British gin (with Martin Millers). I'm amazed by how polarised the reviews are here.

A little disappointing

It’s ok, mixed with tonic and ice. Not much flavour, lacking a bit in botanicals. It is a beautiful bottle but the gin is a bit disappointing.

Floral, light, moreish

Soft, mellow def floral. Very easy on the tongue! Therefore decaptive but yummy.

Light and fresh

Light and lovely if you want something refreshing and flavourful. Better for mixing!

Fresh, Fruity, Floral, and Fruity

Fresh, fruity, floral definitely a summer’s day gin light and best drunk with mates and before a light summery meal or with nibbles

Nice but far better out here

This is a nice gin, but nothing special. You may be a fan if you have liked parma violet gins. Did not enjoy with the recommend rose lemonade

So good!

A friend gave us a bottle of Bloom Gin for a thank you gift. I love a good G and T and had never had Bloom before and it blew me away, in a good way. I LOVE this gin! And so does my fiance, mother and brother (who hardly drinks but can't resist this drop!)

Would recommend for enjoyable drink

Bought my first bottle whilst away, then bought another to bring to the East Coast. I certainly get the notes of pomelo, but also picked up elderflower, which is not a listed ingredient. Enjoyable with club soda and the packaging is pretty on the bar for viewing and will make a lovely vase when I lop the top off

Dont drink it by Peter Blom

Smager som en blanding af tis og sure sokker med eftersmag af armsved spild af god tonic

Not keen on this gin, I was expecting something better. It is harsh and has no distinctive flavours, very disappointing. I had read reviews where it was rated highly, must have a very different palate to mine. I would not buy it again.

12th November 2017

Awful stuff, massively overrated.

A truly horrible gin, it tastes like a mixture of gravel and petrol. I bought this gin because of the good reviews, I couldn't be any unhappier to be honest. I had to mix it with frozen berries and a very expensive tonic water just to make it palatable.

below par - well branded bog standard mixer gin...

Was sold on the bottle which is lovely, very disappointing gin though, interesting to find its made by a mainstream distillery, shows what a bit of good branding can do. Crap gin, no flavour, thin and tasteless, missed or neat. There are much better at this price in my opinion, Ophir, Millers and sipsmith are superior and about the same price...

Floral, light, subtle

The missus brought a bottle back from a wedding and have to say it's quite mild tasting, with floral notes and no acetone aftertaste. Only tried it with Schweppes as Norwegian prices make decent tonic dearer than the booze itself.

Get the mix right with this one and it's a perfect evening long drink

Top Notch

Fresh, crisp and floral. Exactly what a good gin should be. Best served with tonic, ice and a couple of strawberries.

more and more

A friend has just come back from Dubin and brought a couple bottle. I can say. the best martini ever.

Gorgeous flavour and perfume !

I bought this in a Spar supermarket on my holiday in Cornwall this month . Had a gorgeous free Bloom's etched gin glass with it . It's delicious ! I love the fruity and floral aroma and taste with Mediterranean , Elderflower or plain tonic water with ice & a slice of lemon ,lime or cucumber .

Nice gin for drinking in a classical Georgian spa

Currently sipping a G&T made with Bloom, whilst looking out across the sunny rooftops of Bath from a second floor flat in Brunswick Place, listening to the jazz album Mingus Ah Um.
Bloom is a very smooth gin; so much so that I’m already on my third glass this evening! Mingus has now finished and been replaced by some Clementi piano sonatas.
Bloom is as smooth as Plymouth gin but with less juniper. Niiiice...

Déçu par ce gin sur lequel je lorgnais depuis longtemps.
Plutôt classique avec un côté végétal doux-amer sans guère de relief, loin des new western gin plus exubérants et floraux.
Mauvais positionnement et q/p.

Summer gin

Nice summer evenings sitting in the sun gin. I recommend serving it with strawberries and tonic...lovely x

Old version label versus new label

The previous version of Blooms is a beautiful, lightly floral gin with a tiny wee label on the front and a transparent cap cover with black tracery. However, its new incarnation in turquoise and gold is a whole new animal that I suspect has been meant to go with a very strong flavoured tonic such as FeverTree because it is so heavy on the citrus notes such that I cannot enjoy the floral notes at all. I certainly will not be purchasing another of the blue livery but was prepared to buy a caseload of the older version and so are two friends who love a well-flavoured gin, unless the new bottle purchased from Bookers turns out to be a fake Blooms.

Can't think what there is in this gin to make Mr & Mrs Morris so dissappointed. But then a babysitter once drank half the bottle of my friend's malt whisky and topped it up with 'pee' so you never know. I like Bloom gin but maybe I've got a bad mouth. Frankly,I'm amazed at the quality and subtlety of the gins today and this is definitely one of them. Good with a small amount of tonic and a slice of sweet apple.

Liked it a lot !

Again: it's always worth to read the editor's comments. Great discovery!

Mr &Mrs Morris

My wife and I have a large gin to last every evening. Yesterday I went to Sainsbury's and among the artisan gins was your Blooms. we hadn't drank it before but assumed it would be on a par with the others. I drink my gin neat while my wife uses tonic. We wee both horrified at the taste. It was like rough London Gin. With a taste similar to Lidl's cheapest London gin. We were expecting something of a smooth gin with wonderful undertones: similar to Horts London gin or something like Caorunn . It is a small batch gin but with your resources you could distil something so subtle as to be a delight to drink neat. Despite the cost we poured it down the drain as we would not touch it again or offer to guests. Come on Greenalls . You should be able to knock the opposition into a cocked hat.

Refined and delicate

I am amazed this gin is available at such reasonable cost - it is far superior to other gins which do not merit their higher price point. A beautiful mouthfeel and truly finely balanced flavours make this indubitably one of the finest gins available. I would not be surprised to see the price creep north to better represent this as the ultra premium offering it absolutely is.

Second only to the botanist a truly different gin. Great with fentimans, but so many gins are. shop around the masters of malt prices seem to be rising as others are dropping

7th January 2015

this is so smooth it's the best gin I have ever tasted especially with fentimans tonic

21st November 2014

best in class

this for me is the best pound for pound gin around! without spending £35+ you'll be hard pressed to get a better tasting gin.
