Each year, the Blackwoods distillers in the Shetlands create a gin with a vintage, making use of the botanicals available locally, leading to each vintage being slightly different to the last. This is the 2017 edition, which ought to make for a fantastic Bramble cocktail, we reckon...
Warming cassia and black pepper, savoury thyme, floral vanilla, a touch of lemon zest.

Simple, elegant and easy to drink. No fancy flavours required, just fever tree tonic and a slice of lemon…
Pleasant enough gin - it’s certainly very smooth - but disappointingly bland. I’m not into flavoured or coloured ‘novelty’ gins, but this is very unassertive, with no real character other than a steady roundness and a citrus tang. There are far more interesting gins at this price point - I wouldn’t rush to buy again.
Very smooth indeed, and pleasant, but rather bland. Wouldn’t rush to buy again.
I tried an older vintage of Blackwoods and enjoyed it but this is ok but nothing special at all.
Superb gin
