Kirk & Sweeney Rum

Kirk & Sweeney is named after a wooden ship (or ‘schooner’), perhaps best known for smuggling rum from the Caribbean to the Northeast during the early years of Prohibition. In 1924, it was seized off the coast of New York with a rather incriminating amount of rum aboard. Now, onto the rum! Handcrafted in the Dominican Republic by the Bermúdez Rum distillery, the rum adheres to the very strict regulations to be called “Dominican Rum”, and the bottle shape is inspired by the elegantly squat 18th-century ‘onion’ bottles. Many aspects of the brand hark back to the 1920s, honouring and as a tribute to the risk so many were willing to take for a good taste of rum during that time.
