James Sedgwick Distillery
The James Sedgwick Distillery lies in Wellington, South Africa. It carries a history as rich as whisky itself. Founded by Captain James Sedgwick, the distillery started in 1833. He sailed for the British East India Company before retiring in 1850. He then set up J. Sedgwick & Co., selling quality liquor, tobacco, and cigars. After his death, his sons grew the business. They made their own brandy and wines and sold imports. In 1886, they bought land by the Berg River. This is where the distillery is today.
The distillery is famous for Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky and the Three Ships range. It leads South Africa's whisky scene. The distillery made the country's first whisky blend and the first single malt and grain whiskies. They do everything on-site, from milling to blending.
The Three Ships 12 Year Old Whisky is a highlight. Aged in American casks for 12 years, it is strong at 46.3% ABV. Master Distiller Andy Watts and his team have created an excellent whisky.
Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky was South Africa's first single grain whisky in 2009. It ages in bourbon casks for three years, then two more in new casks. It honours Andrew Geddes Bain, who built Wellington's first roads. The distillery's approach to whisky is as bold as Bain's spirit.
James Sedgwick’s Distillery blends innovation with tradition. From Captain Sedgwick's start to today's advanced methods, the distillery leads in whisky quality. Their whiskies have won global praise. Each bottle is a piece of history and shows South Africa's beauty. The legacy of James Sedgwick’s Distillery has been built over many years.
