Milestones Through Time

1885: The distillery started in Lustenau, Vorarlberg, as Freihof. Under Gebhard Hämmerle I, it became popular for its fruit brandies. It was also a guesthouse and cider house.

1952: Gebhard Hämmerle took over his grandfather's distillery. It became one of Austria's top fruit brandy producers, earning global recognition.

1979: Gebhard Hämmerle created the "Gebhard Hämmerle Private Distillery" brand. This marked a new phase in the distillery's history.

1991: The "Heart's Essence Rarities" were introduced. These special brandies are still popular today.

2004: The "Private Reserve" started. This range features spirits aged in wooden casks.

2015: After 130 years, Johann Drexel, the founder's grandson, took over. He modernised the brand while keeping its core values.

2020: The distillery's focus is on working with nature. They use advanced technology and work with sustainable partners. Their goal is to be CO2-neutral soon.
