With a history dating back to 1740, there was once a time when a bottle of Booth's would have been a staple on many a back bar. In more recent times, we've only seen antique bottles come through our doors, discovered in the depths of dusty old pub cellars and grandparent's drinks cabinets. Sticking to the iconic design of those older bottles, this right here is a brand new iteration – an impressive dry gin, that has been treated to a stay in sherry casks! An intriguing sipper neat and impressive served with tonic, the sherry cask influence ought to shine in Negronis and the like, too.
Crisp juniper welcomes the way, with creamy oak and delicate citrus, while sultanas and soft spices tangle in the distance.
... a classic returns (under new ownership). Perhaps not to everyone's taste, this cask aged gin shows why in the "olden days" it was the pre-eminent brand of "straw gin". Carrying woody notes from its ageing in addition to the juniper you have a right to expect, and the other dried fruit and citrus notes you may be discerning enough to detect. A great gin - quite "nichey" - but I hope it doesn't disappear again.
This is one of the oldest and most famous brands of gin, unavailable for years but now returned, courtesy of its new owners Sazerac. But why is there no fanfare? It is a delight.
