Burnt Faith
This first batch from Walthamstow's Burnt Faith distillery is made from eaux-de-vie distilled in France and aged in England in a mixture of Spanish brandy, bourbon, Pineau des Charentes and cherry liqueur casks. The result is a distinctive brandy with a lot of complexity for the money, perfect for sipping neat or in cocktails like a Brandy Sour or a Brandy & Soda.
Lots of fruit here with dark cherries with chocolate, toffee, ginger and other spices.
Good freshness here, aromatic and fruity with sweeter notes like dark chocolate, caramel and a little nuttiness.
Clean and fruity with a lingering nuttiness.
A new discovery for me, an excellent Brandy that is balanced and smooth. I've been enjoying it neat and in an Aged Negroni (saw this on their instagram) 100% give it a try!
Tried for the first time, as wanted something different from your typical Cognac. This didnt disappoint. Great balance of sweetness with chocolatey characters, so drinkable on it's own or in a mean negroni!
I am a regular Cognac drinker, my go to is normally Remy Martin VSOP of Hennessy XO for special occasions. I absolutely love this new style of Brandy, full of flavour with a smooth finish. I cannot recommend more, especially for the price.
My normal ‘brandy’ type of drink is either Calvados, British Fruit Brandy, Spanish Brandy or Armagnac. Reading the review of Burnt Faith I thought why not support a new offering and it’s British. The bottle is enchanting lovely fluting on the neck ending at the glass stopper. Unfortunately, the stopper is undersized and is difficult to remove with arthritic hands. The first sip is fiery caramelised even after warming in the hands for fifteen minutes or so. It was an experience that I will not be repeating.
