Master of Cocktails – The Penultimate Paragraph

Master of Cocktails Penultimate Paragraph

Right then all – we all ready for a cocktail? Time for #MasterofCocktails

Today’s drink is a creation based around this bad boy. It’s Bathtub Gin aged in an ex-Ardbeg cask. This batch is all sold out (I did tell you all to buy it…), but there’s a new batch available from the second-fill. Why, here it is.

So – this week’s #MasterofCocktails is going to be a variation on the Last Word cocktail. One of my all time favourites.

St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland with Jameson!

Hello Dublin Jameson St Patricks Day Live

It was 11am in Gatwick airport on Saturday 14th March. The plane taking a small drinks press contingent over to Ireland for Jameson’s extended #HelloDublin St. Patrick’s Day celebrations was due to leave in just over an hour from Heathrow. Had I made a terrible mistake?

In fact, I’d just arrived back from a holiday and had always known I couldn’t make that flight, just as I knew all I’d be seeing on my return to blighty was Gatwick airport itself. My flight to Cork was later, and until then I’d simply be pretending I was Tom Hanks in The Terminal. (Although there were no Catherine Zeta-Jones love interest developments to speak of.)

Master of Cocktails – Bijou Cocktail

Master of Cocktails Bijou Cocktail

Right then Ladies and Gentlemen – it’s time for another #MasterofCocktails. Excited? Oh yes.

This week we’re making a Chartreuse-heavy ‘Bijou Cocktail‘ recipe, though we’re making it with slightly less Green Chartreuse as to not overwhelm the drink.

‘Bijou’ of course, is French for ‘Jewel’, and the cocktail’s name comes from the colours of precious jewels (emerald, diamond and ruby) being similar to the colour of the ingredients (Chartreuse, Gin and Vermouth).

Master of Cocktails – Pink Gin

Master of Cocktails Pink Gin

Well greetings one and all. Ready for another installment of #MasterofCocktails? Good then.

This week’s is a very, very straightforward drink, but one that seems to have fallen somewhat out of favour recently. We’re making a Pink Gin recipe. Probably one of the very first Gin cocktails?

The original recipe here calls for simply gin and bitters, served at room temperature, in a tumbler. Not that, obviously.

Master of Cocktails The Widow's Kiss

Well hello there cocktail fan. I nearly didn’t see you there. Fancy a drink? Then you’re in luck, as you’re just in time for another #MasterofCocktails.

This week we’re going to make a ‘Widow’s Kiss’ recipe from the excellent PDT Cocktail Book by Jim Meehan. If you haven’t got this tome in your library, I heartily suggest you amend that oversight. Look, I even gave you the Amazon link and everything. Get to it. Chop chop.

Maverick Mr Fox – a Thanksgiving feast of Cocktails!

Maverick Mr Fox

Blimey, it’s been pretty busy around here lately! Jumping crocodiles, there’s been a lot to do! Most of it has something to with some little celebration towards the end of the month or something…

Just kidding, I can’t pretend to not be excited about Santa! I’m literally bursting with festive excitement! You see, I bloody love Christmas, me! The decorations, the music, all the wrapped up pressies and, of course, the Die Hard movies.

What on earth is there not to like?

Feis Ile 2013: Islay Bound

Ferry to Islay

Fèis Ìle 2013. Here. We. Come.

We set off for the Islay whisky festival on Thursday morning with Benedict and myself in one car, Cat and Monsieur Vachon in the Malt Mobile and a rendezvous set for that evening in Edinburgh, our port of call for the night. Successfully avoiding Ben’s extensive heavy metal collection, we were free to discuss vital musical questions such as “Exactly how many years have the ladies loved cool James for now?”. Vital, pressing questions.
