Master of Cocktails – De La Louisiane

Master of Cocktails The De La Louisiane

Well hello there cocktail fans. Hope you all had a wonderful Burns Night (apostrophe?)! In celebration, for #MasterofCocktails on Sunday we made a De La Louisiane recipe, which is a… erm… a cocktail with American Whiskey.

Should’ve thought that one through a bit better really, eh?

Nevertheless – this really is a good ‘un. It’s sort of a halfway house between a Manhattan and a Vieux Carre.

You’ll be needing these…

List of Ingredients

We’re going to start with 50ml Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7 Year Old Rye.

Pop that into a stirring glass with ice.

Now 20ml Bénédictine D.O.M. Liqueur

20ml Sweet Vermouth (I’m using Martini Gran Lusso):

3 dashes (yep – seems like a lot, but there’s a lot of sweetness in there) of Peychaud’s Bitters:

…and 3 dashes of St. George Absinthe Verte.

Now give it a good old stir for a minute or so…

Strain into a chilled Coupe glass…

Garnish with 3 cherries on a pick…

And serve… the ‘De la Louisiane’. Recipe courtesy of ‘Famous New Orleans Drinks’ – 1937.

Enjoy!

Now… We need to take a moment before we talk about next week’s ingredients…

Negroni-Aged Bathtub Gin (Batshit Mental Ideas) – Batch 2

This stuff *really* isn’t going to last long, so do buy it now if you want to make along.

So, here’s everything we’re going to be using for the upcoming #MasterofCocktails. Incidentally, if anyone can guess the name I’ve given to next week’s cocktail, I’ll send you a 2-serving bottle on me.

Next week, you’ll be needing these…
Negroni-Aged Bathtub Gin (Batshit Mental Ideas) – Batch 2, Cocchi Barolo Chinato, Cynar and an Orange.

Ben.
