Time to start peeling sprouts and sipping a tasty Macallan – it’s Day 21 of #WhiskyAdvent!

Christmas is only a stone’s throw away and we can’t get Christmas music out of our head – likely because of the animatronic reindeer on the wall that sings ‘It’ll Be Lonely This Christmas’. It’s got fresh batteries in it too, so it definitely won’t run out of power, because you can’t put a price on comedy.

So, what will we be enjoying today via Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar? Well, behind window #21 you’ll find a dram of Macallan 12 Year Old – either the 12 Year Old Sherry Oak or the 12 Year Old Double Cask!

It’s December 20th – we’re on the home stretch, everyone! Let’s see what’s behind window #20…

From dragons yesterday to unicorns today. We told you that Christmas was filled with mythical beasts! If you couldn’t guess from that little hint, the dram hiding behind window #20 of Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar is a delicious single malt from Fettercairn, who have a unicorn on their labels (the unicorn is also the national animal of Scotland – a useful factoid for post-Christmas dinner games of Trivial Pursuit). Today’s dram is Fettercairn Fasque, an unpeated expression which takes its name from a country estate close to the distillery in the Highlands…

Today we’re thinking about Christmas and dragons – they go together like roast potatoes and gravy in a Christmas dinner.

Six days to go, and we’re tucking into the English single malt whisky which lies behind window #19 of Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar. Yes, today’s dram is That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s independent bottling of 5 year old single malt from The English Whisky Company!

The label of this whisky features a mythical beast which doesn’t get a lot of attention during this time of year, despite it being packed with mythical beasts – reindeer with magical noses, toy-making elves, the Grinch, #WhiskySanta and the like. But just imagine how festive dragons could be if they were allowed to join in! They could cook turkeys in an instant, they could help hang decorations in really high-up places, they would look great in little Christmas hats. Next year, the Christmas dragon should become a ‘thing’.

So, there’s some good news, some more good news and some bad news. What we’re going to do is create a ‘good news sandwich’ using all of these pieces.

Good News: It’s a week until Christmas!
Bad News: There’s only 7 more #WhiskyAdvent drams to enjoy.
More Good News: Today’s dram is absolutely marvellous!

There you go, a ‘good news sandwich’! This also reminds us of another bit of good news – Boxing Day Christmas dinner-leftover sandwiches are in our near-future. Get in.

It’s the Friday before the final full weekend before Christmas. Christmas Jumper Day is in full effect here at MoM Towers. It’s truly awe-inspiring how festive we all look. Multiple people have jumpers with bells on them. T’is the season to wear noisy clothing, as they say.

A brand new bottling from That Boutique-y Whisky Company hides behind today’s window of Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar!

Day 14 has rolled around, meaning there’s only 10 days left of #WhiskyAdvent after this one! At this point, some of you might be completely unprepared and really starting to worry or be totally ready for the big day with all your presents wrapped in bacon and tiny cocktail sausages covered in gift wrap. Picky people will say that’s the wrong way around, but at least you’re in better standing than all the unprepared folks.

So, what’s behind window #14 of Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar, eh? It’s a brand new bottling from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, that’s what – a 25 year old Invergordon single grain! Let’s give it a taste…

We kick off the second half of #WhiskyAdvent with a whisky from one of Speyside’s greats…

For day 13 of #WhiskyAdvent, we head east from the Tomatin distillery to the heart of the Speyside region. What will be behind window #13 of Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar? Well, dear friends, it’s a dram of Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old!

This absolutely classic Speysider is initially matured in traditional oak casks before enjoying a finishing period in first-fill European oak Sherry casks, which imparts all those yummy cinnamon, sultana and chocolate notes you’ll find in the DoubleWood 12 Year Old. With Christmas only 12 days away, this is a bit like looking into the future of our tastebuds – cinnamon biscuits, Christmas pudding and the traditional tin of Quality Street.

This week, we’re taking an in-depth look at Benromach – a distillery which oozes that truly classic Speyside style. And, for a limited time only, we’re giving away a staggering single cask bottle of Benromach 1974 worth £1,200!

Today, with its malty, slightly smoky, rich single malt, Benromach is an innovative distillery, boasting a wide variety of styles and creations, despite its fairly small scale. There’s heavily peated malt; the world’s first organic-certified single malt whisky; some tremendous Jim Murray Whisky Bible scores (he described the 30 Year Old as “magnificent”); and all produced by hand by a team of just four distillers. With no computer automation and complete reliance of distilling by sight, sound and smell, there is a great deal of room for nuance and character. As Distillery Manager, Keith Cruickshank, says, “sometimes it’s those tiny inconsistencies that make a whisky so beautifully consistent.”
